Mahalaya Amavasya is very auspicious to offer tarpan to ancestors. Tarpan is a traditional ritual to offer oblations to departed ancestors. The ceremony includes offering to ones ancestors with Vaidic Chanting. It is said that those whose parents have left their bodies can offer Tarpan remembering their ancestors. Male & female, whose parent(either father or mother) is no longer in physical body can do.

Mahalaya Amavasya is a powerful day to connect with your ancestors and offer gratitude through the sacred ritual of TARPANAM.

Who can participate?

Anyone whose parent (either father or mother) is no longer in their physical body can perform this ritual.

Materials Required for TARPANAM at Home:

1. Black Tila (Black sesame seeds)
2. White Rice (uncooked)
3. Panchapatra Set (Plate, Spoon/Udarni, and Small Glass)
4. Asan (Seat)
5. Darbha Grass (Available at puja stores near temples)
