12 - Vedarambha Samskara

Vedarambha is the twelfth of the sixteen Samskara in Vaidic tradition. Veda is Vaidic literature while arambha means the beginning. Hence, Vedarambha literally means ‘commencement of studies of Vedas’.

This ceremony is performed on any auspicious day after the Upanayanam. In front of the sacred fire, the student takes a vow of dedicating himself to serve his Guru and to live a disciplined life. The student follows the path of Brahmcharya and focuses only on the education.
