Mahalaya Amavasya is very auspicious to offer tarpan to ancestors. Tarpan is a traditional ritual to offer oblations to departed ancestors. The ceremony includes offering to ones ancestors with Vaidic Chanting.

It is said that those whose parents have left their bodies can offer Tarpan remembering their ancestors. Male & female, whose parent(either father or mother) is no longer in physical body can do.

Following material will be required to offer tarpanam at Home

Black Tila (Black seasme seed)

White (uncooked) Rice

Panchapatra (Plate, Udarni (Spoon) & Small Glass)

Asan (seat)

Darbha (special type of dry grass, available in all puja stores, near temples)
