PITRU PAKSHA | 30 Sept -14 Oct

Vaidic Programs at Bodhgaya Ashram, Bihar

1. Tarpan (Both Online on Zoom & In-Person) | Daily at 8 am & 10.30 am
2. Pind Daan (In-Person only)
Pitru Paksha is a period for paying homage to your ancestors who have departed from this world. It is said that those whose parents have left their
bodies can offer Pind Daan & Tarpan remembering their ancestors. It is suggested to offer Pind Daan & Tarpan either on the same tithi on which the ancestors' souls
had departed or on any one of the days during Pitru Paksha.

Significance of Pitru Paksha by Gurudev

Pitru Tarpan

The word 'tarpan' has originated from the root 'trup'. 'Trup' in Sanskrit means 'to satisfy'. Pitru Tarpan is performed to remember & thank our ancestors and to receive their blessings.

Importance of Pitru Tarpan
It is also performed to liberate them from any unfulfilled desires so that they can complete their journey to the heavenly abode with peace and contentment. It is believed that during tarpan, the pitrus assume a form and accept the offerings.
When to do?

It is suggested to offer Pind Daan & Tarpan either on the same tithi on which the ancestors' souls had departed or on any one of the days during Pitru Paksha.

Pitru Paksha : Significance

These days are considered to be very auspicious to perform Pitru Tarpan, Pind Daan and Shraddh. It is believed that during these days Pitru (ancestors) visit the earth so that they can receive whatever their families offer to them and shower their blessings on their family members.

PIND DAAN (In-Person Only)

There are many types of Pind Daan Puja (just as there are many types of Homas).

At Bodhgaya ashram, we conduct 3 types of Pind Daan (these are the most popular/common type)
3 TYPES OF PIND DAAN
1) Gaya Shraadh (when death is due to natural causes)
2) Tripindi Shraadh(when death is due to accidental causes)
3) Narayan Bali Shraadh(when the reason for death is unknown)
OTHER PIND DAAN PUJA

The are other types of Pind Daan puja, which are not very common. If you want to perform any particular puja other than the aforesaid/mentioned 3 types then please reach out to our Coordinator whose contact details are shared below.

WHY GAYA FOR PIND DAAN

Gaya, Bihar has a historical importance of performing Pind daan. Lord Ram, has performed the ritual in the disguise of his father Lord Dasharatha over the bank of Phalgu river and is preffered the most among us.
